I’ve written thirty or so nonfiction books, but what I love most of all is writing crime novels. There are six of these published so far, all featuring a guy named Crang (one name only). He’s a criminal lawyer in Toronto but acts more like a private eye. He’s kind of a smart ass, drinks vodka, and listens to jazz (he’s particularly nuts about Bill Evans). He has a woman in his life, the inimitable Annie B. Cooke who is a freelance writer specializing in film reviews. Other people drift in and out of his life–Maury Samuels, the retired cat burglar is a ubiquitous presence in recent books–but Crang is essentially a one-man operation. The seventh Crang book, titled Booking In, will appear in November 2017.
